Harvard National Invitational Forensics Tournament
February 17-21, 2012

Through their hard work with the team and success in their individual debate events, the following students have earned participation in the Harvard Debate tournament held in Cambridge, Mass. This year’s trip will be from February 17th (departure from Austin) to the 21st (departure from Boston). This is the 38th annual Harvard Invitational and we will be competing against over 300 schools. A schedule for the tournament is located at:

Jennifer Stratton will not be judging any rounds during the competition to be an “in case of emergency” contact. Her cell phone number is 512-569-4702.
PLEASE BRING $200-$300 to pay for food costs and souvenirs while in Boston. It is up to students and parents to decide the amount with which the student will travel.
We will be using the subway to get from one location to the next. The students know that they are to have their cell phones ON at all times and that they are to keep them with them. We will, of course, be using a buddy system in which a student will always be attended by another student or chaperon. I realize that Boston is a large and hectic city and I want to make sure that your children are safe.
Friday, February 17th (Anderson classes not in session, so students will not miss school)
Meet at airport at 8:00AM.
Leave Austin for Boston at 9:35AM
Arrive in Boston at 3:55PM
We will take the subway from the airport to the hotel.
Check into hotel and meet as soon as possible in lobby.
Dinner in downtown Boston.

Saturday, February 18th
Tournament begins at 8:00am and lasts until 9:00pm
As the tournament is spread across Harvard’s campus, students are responsible for purchasing their own food. There are many restaurants around campus. Again, if a problem arrises, students should contact Ms. Jen.

Awards Ceremony is at 4:00pm. We will go to the North End (if everything works according to plan) for Dinner on Monday night.

Tuesday, February 21st (Students will be excused from school on this date)
Take subway from hotel to airport at 6:00am. Flight leaves for Austin at 9:05am. Students will be responsible for purchasing food at the airport. Arrive in Austin at 2:40pm.
WEATHER:
As of late, and as you would expect, the weather has been cold. Highs have been in the 30s and lows have been in the teens. Make sure your child has warm clothes for this trip. They should bring thermals, fleece, scarves, hats, gloves, etc.
They are advised to pack accordingly, but please don’t allow them to take too much. On the flight to Boston, checked bags are not free ($25 dollars a bag).
The total travel cost for each student for the entire trip is: $300.
